‘I f*****d up my life’: Okla. officer stabbed by suspect in ‘targeted ambush’

The Edmond PD officer was conducting a traffic stop when another person attacked him, asking to be shot; the officer was able to subdue the man with help from a bystander

EDMOND, Okla. — Newly released dashcam and body camera footage shows the moment an Edmond Police Department officer was attacked by a knife-wielding man during a traffic stop, KFOR reported.

The video, released on June 4, captures nearly four minutes of footage from the May 1 traffic stop. The officer was speaking with the driver when another person approached from behind. Moments later, that man pepper-sprayed the officer and lunged at him with a butcher knife.

A physical struggle ensued as the officer tried to subdue the suspect, ultimately forcing him to the ground. Despite repeated commands to stop, the suspect continued to resist. At one point, the video shows him still holding the knife.

“I have nothing left,” the suspect is heard saying in the video. “Just do me a favor, man. I f***** up my life.”

A bystander rushed in to help the officer, removing the knife and calling for backup. During the encounter, the suspect repeatedly told the officer to shoot him.

“Shoot me, man, I got nothing to live for.”

He also revealed, “I’m supposed to be in prison today, but I ain’t doing that.”

A second responding officer deployed a TASER after the suspect ignored commands, eventually bringing him into custody.

At the time of the incident, the suspect was wanted in Canadian County for violating a court order related to child pornography and lewd acts with a minor.

Edmond Police Chief J.D. Younger described the attack as a “targeted ambush” in a statement released with the footage.

“What you will see is an officer violently attacked while simply doing his job…” said Younger. “[The officer] fought for his life and won. His survival is a direct result of his training and composure under pressure.”

The officer is recovering from his injuries, according to the report. The suspect remains in custody and is facing multiple charges related to the attack.
