Firefighter designs decal to support fallen Houston-area deputy

The ‘I’ve got your back’ decal funds go to family of slain deputy Darren Goforth

HOUSTON — A firefighter is honoring law enforcement officers with a decal after the slaying of Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth, Click2Houston reported.

Sugar Land Fire Department Capt. Greg Hopper came up with the idea to make an “I’ve Got Your Back” decal while listening to the radio on his way home from work. The decal can be stuck onto a vehicle and shows public support for LEOs.

“I was getting irritated with all the stuff going on, on the news channel that I was listening to, so I thought I am going to pull into Walmart or a grocery store and just put big letters on the back of my truck that says ‘I’ve got your back,’ and then I started thinking, wait a minute I am not the only one,” Capt. Hopper said to the news site.

He’s asking for a $10 donation for the decals. Proceeds from the decal sales will go toward the Goforth family and other families in similar situations.

He told the publication he has received overwhelming support and has already raised over $35,000 for Goforth’s family.

“I am here with my family; to me this is what it is all about, taking care of my family. The Goforth family, they don’t have their father there now,” he said to the publication.

Goforth was shot and killed in the line of duty at a Chevron gas station on Aug. 28. Authorities arrested and charged Shannon Miles, 30, with capital murder.
