Video: NYPD cop uses patrol vehicle PA system to sing Backstreet Boys hit

As the officer finishes the song, the bystanders are heard applauding the officer, before he tells them all, “Thanks everyone. Have a good day!”

STATEN ISLAND, NY — A video of an city police officer singing a Backstreet Boys hit has gone viral on social media.

The video shows officer Richard Gunther using the public address system in his police vehicle to sing “I Want it That Way,” on Saturday morning in Manhattan, reported WPIX.

The post, which already has over 1,300 views, shows bystanders watching and recording the two officers in the car. Gunther’s partner, Officer Bill Hunz, sitting in the passenger seat is seen laughing and enjoying his partner’s singing.

As Gunther finishes the last line of the song, the bystanders are heard applauding the officer, before he tells them all, “Thanks everyone. Have a good day!”

Jordan Haskins, who posted the video to Instagram wrote, “The NYPD absolutely nailed it today. So cool to see the humanity in our law enforcement. A small thing like this can really give you some hope in such uncertain times.”

The two officers in the car reportedly found the video, according to WPIX, and commented on it, as well.

“I’m so glad I can entertain everyone,” wrote Gunther. “Feels great interacting with the community and seeing all the smile/laughs! You guys are the best!”

Officer Bill Hunz, Gunther’s partner wrote on the post, “Thanks for the laughs today Rich. No other person I’d rather ride around with all day.”
