CARR, Colo. — Two deputies were injured after one deputy discharged his firearm at the Sam Brownlee Training Center near Carr on Tuesday afternoon, according to a social media post from the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.

At 3:17 p.m., deputies were participating in a firearms training at the facility. At the end of the training, as deputies were no longer on the firing line and securing their gear, one deputy discharged their firearm, injuring themselves and another deputy.

Both deputies were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

There is no danger to the public and the incident is under an active internal investigation, the sheriff’s office said.

The Sam Brownlee Training Center opened in November. It serves as a training facility for the Weld County Sheriff’s Office’s 320 sworn deputies, the agency said in a November release.
