Video: Off-duty Ga. deputy nabs suspect fleeing on foot

“It is possible to peacefully surrender on your warrant without racking up extra … by following lawful commands instead of fleeing. Just an idea….” the Lee County Sheriff’s Office stated

LEE COUNTY, Da. —An off-duty Lee County deputy helped arrest a wanted man after the suspect attempted to flee from authorities, WSB-TV reported.

Deputies were searching for a man who had an active warrant for failure to appear, when they located him walking near a roadway, video shows. As they attempted to take him into custody, the man ran away from officers.

Uniformed officers pursued the man on foot as he continued to flee, jumping fences and running through private properties.

Deputy Worley, who was off duty at the time, intervened and brought the suspect to the ground, video shows.

The man was booked into the Lee County Jail on his outstanding warrant and an additional charge of obstruction of a law enforcement officer, according to the report.

“If you have a warrant, it is possible to peacefully surrender on your warrant without racking up extra charges like obstruction by following lawful commands instead of fleeing. Just an idea…. However, if you do decide to run, it’s probably a good idea to have on a belt and footwear other than slides,” the sheriff’s office said.
