‘His loss is felt deeply': Houston motor officer killed during traffic escort

HOUSTON — A Houston police officer was killed while conducting a traffic escort.

Senior Police Officer Alex Roberts, who was assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Division’s Solo Motorcycle Detail, was struck by another vehicle while riding his motorcycle, according to the Houston Police Department. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the crash.

HPD Police Chief J. Noe Diaz Jr. called Roberts’ death a devastating loss for the department.

“Senior Police Officer Roberts faithfully served the Houston Police Department with honor and dedication. His loss is felt deeply within our department and the community he proudly served,” Diaz said in a statement.

Roberts joined HPD in November 2010.
