PONTOTOC COUNTY, Okla. — An Oklahoma detention officer, who had been placed in a medically-induced coma after slipping and falling on ice in his agency's parking lot last month, died Sunday. 

Pontotoc County Sheriff's Office detention officer Kenneth Fowler, 52, slipped and fell on the ice in the parking lot of the Pontotoc County Justice Center during an ice storm. Fowler was found in the parking lot and was transported to a hospital suffering from head injuries and hypothermia.

Fowler hit his head in the fall, causing brain bleeds and a hairline fracture in his skull, KXII.com reported. He was placed in a medically-induced coma at the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries on Feb. 19. 

Fowler, who served with the Pontotoc County Sheriff's Office for five years, leaves behind his wife and daughter.
