HUNTERSVILLE, Tenn. — A deputy sheriff was killed in a single-vehicle accident Tuesday morning, The Jackson Sun reported.

Deputy Rosemary Vela was on duty and responding to a call for backup when her vehicle crashed on a highway near Huntersville, Madison County Deputy Mayor Tony White told the publication.

Deputy Vela had served with the sheriff's office since April.

No other details have been released. An investigation is ongoing.
