MINNEAPOLIS — The Minneapolis police union president spoke out against Black Lives Matter activists at a press conference following the second probe of a fatal police shooting Wednesday.
WCCO reported Lt. Bob Kroll told reporters the group contributed to the “disruption and takeover” of a police precinct in the wake of the Jamar Clark protests. Clark, 24, was fatally shot by officers during his arrest Nov. 15 and his death sparked weeks of unrest.
“I don’t see Black Lives Matter as a voice for the black community in Minneapolis,” he told reporters. “The disruption, the, you know, they firebombed the precinct. There were shootings outside the precinct, hundreds of thousands of dollars [of damage] to the precinct and squad cars.”
A second probe of the shooting found there was not enough evidence to charge officers. Kroll blamed the circumstances of death on Clark and that Officers Mark Ringgenberg and Dustin Schwarze were “just doing their job.”
“Jamar Clark dictated the circumstances that night,” he said.
Kroll also criticized a third investigation issued by the Minneapolis police. The first two were cleared by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the FBI.
“What other career do you get investigated three times for the same incident?” Kroll said.
