INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) recently released bodycam footage from the September shooting of a murder suspect by an officer.

WTWO News reported officers were dispatched on Sept. 16 to an Indianapolis daycare for a person shot. Upon arrival, authorities found a woman later identified as Krystal Walton shot multiple times. Walton, who had been dropping off children at Charity Church Childhood Center for daycare when she was attacked, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Roughly three hours later, a witness told police they’d overheard a man at a bus stop telling people he’d shot someone. Officers responded to the location and found 33-year-old Orlando Mitchell holding an AR-15.

Video shows Mitchell exiting his vehicle holding the rifle and pointing the gun at officers, ignoring numerous requests to drop the weapon.

Two IMPD officers then opened fire, and Mitchell was hit in the leg. While arresting the suspect, police found another handgun in his waistband.

As paramedics were treating Mitchell, he can be heard on video yelling, “I shot that b***h in her face,” referring to Walton.

Mitchell has since been charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.
