Colo. PD launches DFR program

Drones will be used to respond to calls and help officers in the field

DENVER — Soon, drones will be the first to respond to some 911 calls in Commerce City.

The Commerce City Police Department announced Wednesday that it is launching the Drone as First Responder program, or DFR, which allows professionals in the agency to operate drones remotely to help with calls for service.

The police department has pilots within the agency and has been using drone technology for many years, CCPD Chief of Police Darrel Guadnola said in a video on YouTube.
