SAN DIEGO — Video captured a highway patrol officer stopping a moving car with a suspected drunk driver passed out inside.

ABC-10 reports California Highway Patrol Officer Sergio Flores responded to the scene after a television news videographer noticed the car stopped on the highway.

25-year-old Amber Dlaine McKinney Morgan was passed out behind the wheel for over 27 minutes as cars went by at 60-70 miles per hour, according to the report.

Officer Flores was attempting to wake Morgan up when the car started moving forward. The officer managed to break the driver’s passenger side window and put the vehicle into park.

The woman was taken into custody without any further incident.

“I realize how easily this could have been a tragedy for the unresponsive driver, passing motorists, my partner, or even myself,” Flores wrote in a statement.

“I know my job is dangerous and there are times when I will have to put myself in harm’s way in order to protect the people of California. Situations like this happen all over the state and officers put themselves at risk every day because we all took an oath to protect and to serve.”
