BROWARD, Fla. — The man accused of a double murder in Broward last week was arrested Sunday afternoon after police say he was tracked down by a Miami-Dade deputy at a Miami Gardens park.

Isaiah Collins, 27, was apprehended after an off-duty Miami-Dade deputy saw Collins at a park in Miami Gardens around 4:30 p.m., according to Pembroke Pines police.

Collins is accused of killing Octavis Anthony Myers and a woman whose identity has yet to be released, detectives say. Both were found dead on Sept. 10 at a home on the 11700 block of Northwest 109th Avenue . How they died is unclear.

Investigators say Collins is the grandson of the woman who owns the house. Collins also lived at the residence at some point, according to property records, which list the owners of the home as Carrie Collins and Samuel Collins .

When detaining Collins, a Miami-Dade deputy shot at the murder suspect, per Miami Herald news partner CBS News Miami. A bullet hit Collins in the lower arm, and he was taken to the hospital, where he’s in “stable” condition.

MDSO sheriff Christopher Carothers told reporters Sunday night the deputy attempted to talk to Collins before the shooting.

Collins, Carothers said, began to run — dashing across Florida’s Turnpike and jumping into a canal near Northwest 192nd Street and Sunshine State Parkway East. He eventually climbed a tree.

“...There must’ve been something at the moment they realized non-compliance and there was a reason for the deputy to fire,” Carothers said.

Collins is facing two first-degree murder charges in Broward and additional charges in Miami-Dade following his capture. Police initially said Collins was not a suspect in the deaths.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
