37th Candlelight Vigil to honor 345 fallen officers during National Police Week

This year’s honorees include 148 officers killed in the line of duty in 2024, along with 197 who died in previous years

WASHINGTON — The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) will honor 345 fallen officers during the 37th annual Candlelight Vigil.

The vigil, held annually during Police Week, honors fallen officers by reading aloud the new names carved in the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

This year’s “Roll Call of Heroes” includes 148 officers who were killed in the line of duty in 2024. Among them are federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, campus and military law enforcement officers. The total reflects a 25% increase in line-of-duty deaths compared to 2023.

Following extensive research and approval by the names committee, 197 officers who died in the years prior to 2024 will also be honored, NLEOMF said. Their sacrifice is being honored now that the Memorial Fund’s research staff has verified both the circumstances of their deaths and their law enforcement service records.

The annual Candlelight Vigil is a cornerstone event during National Police Week. Approximately 30,000 people are expected to attend this year’s ceremony to remember and reflect on the lives of those who served and sacrificed.

The full list of names to be added can be found in the 2025 Roll Call of Heroes at LawMemorial.org.

The event is free, open to the public and no registration is required. The vigil will be streamed on YouTube and Facebook.
