As they struggled for control of the weapon, officers on patrol saw the altercation and approached.
One of the victims shouted that the suspect had a gun. Officers called for backup and ordered the suspect to drop the weapon, video shows.

Video shows the would-be victims trying to break away from the suspect. Officers then fired a shot at the suspect as he rolled over and tried to get onto his feet.

The suspect was able to grab the rifle and pointed it toward officers as he stood up. Officers then fired multiple shots, bringing the man to the ground.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a hospital in stable condition before being arrested for armed robbery, according to the release. Both victims were also struck by gunfire during the incident and taken to another hospital. They have since been treated and released.

Investigators recovered a loaded .22 caliber AK-style rifle and a folding knife from the scene. The shooting remains under investigation.
