COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — Video capturing an officer’s pursuit of a suspect and response after the man’s violent crash has been released.

The Times-Herald reports a deputy identified the suspect — 34-year-old Antonio Terrell Johnson — as driving a stolen BMW August 4th after running the vehicle’s tags.

The pursuit began after Johnson sped off as the deputy was attempting to initiate a traffic stop.

The brief pursuit ended after Johnson lost control around a curve and smashed into multiple trees, according to the report.

The force of the impact was so great the vehicle’s engine was launched from the car. According to Fox 9, police believe Johnson may have also been ejected from the vehicle.

Despite the violent crash, Johnson escaped the scene and is currently at large. Police are looking into the possibility that a van stolen shortly after the crash was used by Johnson as a getaway vehicle.

Police recovered a large amount of stolen items at the scene of the accident — including cell phones, laptops, and credit cards. Four guns were also recovered — two of which were stolen — according to the Times-Herald.

A passenger also survived the crash and has not yet been charged. She is cooperating with police in their investigation.
