Authorities say the pursuit began shortly after 8 a.m. when officers in Bay Harbor Islands alerted Bal Harbour police to a vehicle driving the wrong way on 96th Street, according to the report. The suspect allegedly entered Bal Harbour at high speed, swerving between lanes and jumping curbs in what police described as “reckless and dangerous” driving.
The pursuit continued until the suspect crashed his vehicle on the beach after colliding with police cruisers from both Bal Harbour and Surfside. Bodycam and witness video shows officers using TASERs as the suspect remained inside the vehicle, smiling and waving a passport and flag before being taken into custody.
Surfside Police Chief Charles Press called the incident “one of the most dangerous situations” officers and the public could face.
The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
