HUGHSON, Calif. — An off-duty Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department sergeant and his wife were found dead in what investigators say was a murder-suicide.

The couple was identified as Sgt. Daniel Hutsell, 40, and Dinella Hutsell, 37, CBS Sacramento reports. One of the couple’s children called 911 around 9:30 a.m. to report the deaths inside their home on Fontana Ranch Road in Hughson.

Deputies responded, removed two children from the residence and located the bodies.

Sgt. Hutsell had served with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department since 2011. His career included assignments as a detective and as a member of the department’s SWAT team.

The Modesto Police Department, which is leading the investigation, released a statement saying, “We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues affected by this tragedy.”

No further details have been released as the investigation remains ongoing.

The Stanislaus SWAT Association has partnered with the Hutsell-Madrigal family to set up a GoFundMe to support the couple’s two daughters. If you would like to make a donation, click here.
