CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenberg Police Department released an update on a 16-year-old who made headlines this year for racking up 275 criminal charges.
CMPD first highlighted the juvenile’s case in June. After being extradited to South Carolina, the juvenile was placed on probation and released to their guardian in August, according to the department.

The department went on to describe incidents the suspect has been involved in since that arrest, for which he was tried in juvenile court and released again, according to the release.
In October, the suspect was involved in a vehicle pursuit with the Mooresville Police Department after breaking into multiple vehicles. After crashing the vehicle, he was taken into custody on 15 charges, including several for possessing stolen firearms. Mooresville PD’s request for a secure custody order was denied, and the suspect was released to their guardian, according to the release.
In November, the juvenile stole a car, participated in an armed carjacking and shot into an occupied residence associated with a gang member, all in the same night.
CMPD’s Juvenile Accountability and Diversion Empowerment (JADE) Unit, working with officers in the Metro Division, connected the cases and secured warrants to charge the 16-year-old habitual offender as an adult. The CMPD then filed for a search warrant that found multiple firearms as well as key programmers.
The suspect has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of stolen goods, discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling, felony conspiracy, injury to personal property, possession of a weapon of mass destruction and possession of a handgun by minor.
He is being held without bond, according to the release. Investigators have also identified the juvenile as a person of interest in nearly 80 car break-ins across multiple jurisdictions, and additional charges are expected.
“This arrest reflects the persistence and thorough investigative work of our officers, as well as the importance of teamwork in addressing repeat offenders who pose ongoing threats to our community,” the department stated.
