Officer Dao Meunsaveng, a 23-year veteran of the force, was trapped in his vehicle following the wreck. Firefighters with the Des Moines Fire Department were called to the scene to extricate him, and he was transported to a nearby hospital in serious but stable condition, according to the report. K-9 Bero was treated at an emergency veterinary hospital and has since been released.

DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines Police officer and his K-9 partner are expected to recover after being injured in a violent crash, KCCI reported.

The incident occurred on July 9 when a pickup truck crossed into the oncoming lane and hit a patrol car nearly head-on, according to the report.

Officer Dao Meunsaveng, a 23-year veteran of the force, was trapped in his vehicle following the wreck. Firefighters with the Des Moines Fire Department were called to the scene to extricate him, and he was transported to a nearby hospital in serious but stable condition, according to the report. K-9 Bero was treated at an emergency veterinary hospital and has since been released.

The driver of the pickup is in stable condition at the hospital. Both Meunsaveng and the driver of the pickup are expected to recover, according to the report.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the pickup truck as the investigation is ongoing.
